Squirrel Mode

September 30, 2006

Every fall a weird change takes place in my body. As the temperature starts to drop and the leaves begin to change the urge to “nest” takes over. I begin canning and freezing every known vegetable to man, whether we eat them or not. I bake nearly everyday. I pull all the wool and alpaca from their summer hiding places and begin to plan Christmas presents, a fall wardrobe, you get the idea. Granted, by the time this urge passes so does the ambition to have a hand-knit Christmas. I honestly haven’t knit something for myself in over 2 years so forget the fall wardrobe.

This year is no exception, first it was canning peaches, now it’s applesauce. I have joined several KAL’s, I am all geared up for Socktoberfest and the Warm Hands KAL. With all the requests for socks I am sure I will be knitting well into November. I would love to make myself a pair of socks. Not to mention, did you see Ariann over at Chic Knits? I have this great Autumn orange worsted wool that is calling Ariann…Ariann…Ariann. I think it’s time I knit something for me, I can splurge once every 2 years right?

The belated father-in-law socks are nearing an end, I amhoping to finish them this weekend so I can gift them on Monday.

I think I cast on a little loosely with these, looks a little frilly at the top, other than that, these are great socks…..hmm, does Dad really want socks for his birthday?

The monkey was feeling a bit better yesterday afternoon, she saw my Warm Hands button and immediately requested mittens. When I told my husband he said, “I don’t get mittens too? I only get socks?”

Monkey Sick Day=Mom Mini-Vacation

September 29, 2006

The monkey is still very sick. I have spent the last two nights in a vicks vaporized bedroom up until 1:00 a.m., clinging to the side of her twin bed before sleep finally claimed her. Last night we added a heating pad to mix of all the vaporizers and medicines as her tummy is now really quite soar from all the coughing.

I have seriously downgraded my benefits package from my old job back in NY to my new one here in PA. I went from 2 weeks paid vacation and 1 week paid sick time to 5 paid days to use for both. Of course, now I am down to 1 day due to the monkey being so sick. I have also upgraded from near insanity and migraines to being dileriously happy where I work, so the trade off has been pretty great. I have been using her sick days as “mini-vacations”. Sleeping is always on the agenda as well as knitting the day away with my girl as she is on the mend. Her several sick days have actually ended up being very productive for me. I don’t know about them ahead of time so I can’t cram them full of other things, so I have been getting quite a bit done around the house.

A tiny piece of home sent from my Gigi, this is one of the many fall displays at a large farmstand, that I dearly miss, Frog Pond.

Is it October yet?

September 26, 2006

The past 10 days have been filled with knitting like a maniac, robitussin, vicks vaporub, cough drops, inhalers, vaporizers, and a coughing monkey. Yep, fall is here. The monkey has caught a nasty cough which in my world means pure panic. She has illness induced asthma you see, so the first sign of a sniffle Mom freaks out and grabs the inhaler. Why you may ask? Because, otherwise we go into instant bronchitis. The pediatrician assures me she will out grow this.

In the knitting realm I have been juggling a sock swap buddy and 3 September birthdays. My father-in-law’s sock needs a kitchener stitch and some blocking, the second one is on the needles and about 1/3 completed. For Mom B’s birthday: mittens and a hat which I will finish tonight and ship tomorrow. *sigh* I miss NY winters already. And for my Mom’s birthday socks. . .well as you can see, they haven’t even hit the needles yet, but I know she’s gonna like the colourway.

SSS Pal Got Her Package

September 25, 2006

Yay! I am really happy, my SSS Pal Amy got her package this past Saturday and apparently loved it. Which makes my day because I was really worried about the colourway. When I bought it on the internet the orange didn’t show on the sample so I was hoping that she liked orange. I am hoping that the sock fit, she didn’t mention, I used my daughter’s size 7 to go from. Still no digital camera, kinda hard to get a knitting blog off the ground w/ out pics!

What’s a girl to do?

September 24, 2006

Well, I find this amusing considering that no one is reading this blog anyway, but, just for practice and to make myself feel better. . . My digital camera’s batteries died this past week because someone (probably me) put it back in the case whilst it was still on. Doh! So of course there are no pictures of my knitting on my knitting blog, YET! Anyway, I have been swamped with birthday socks, unfortunately, all of them will be late. I recently gained a father-in-law and found a week before hand that his birthday is September 18th. Ha! Oh joy, quick grab the needles. . . Then of course there is my Mom Besemer whose birthday is on September 20th. I had something knit up for her already, but didn’t think it was quite enough so I am finishing a hat to go with it, then it’s off to the post office. Tomorrow, is my mother’s birthday, who doesn’t ever want to be shown on my blog, and I have just started her present today. I will spill the beans as she already knows its coming late. I am designing my first pattern, socks. I hope you like them Mom. Life has been interesting this week, the monkey has been sick, first we started with an ER trip on Wednesday night because she had hives, I stayed home Thursday and then Friday more hives so she came to work with me. She has a nasty cough which I am praying does not turn into bronchitis. The girls at work and I skipped out on the AHA Heartwalk today. It was turning out to be a yucky day and 4 miles in the rain just didn’t sound appealing. Anyhow, we had already raised the money with other fundraisers (none of which were very heart friendly) so we did not see the point of the walk. Anyway, my boss, who wanted me to head this up said next year he would just give a donation instead. Thank you! Signing off to no one in particular. Keep checking back from time to time. I am still very new to blogging and will be learning as fast as I can.

Welcome to my blog…

September 1, 2006

Welcome to my blog, my corner of the universe, my world. I am a recent transplant from upstate NY to beautiful south central PA. I am, among other things, a recent newlywed, a mom of a lovely 10 year old, a mom to two mildly neurotic dogs, a fiber fiend, a knit-wit, and a sock addict.

Join me as I post, for all the world to see, my daily misadventures.
