Whole lotta nothin’

November 28, 2007

Well in case you haven’t noticed there is a whole lotta nothing going on around here. I have completely lost my knitting mojo, which is bad because I have three knitted Christmas gifts that are not getting knitted. I have been playing a lot of WoW and battling awful hyper sensitive prego skin and having nightly dreams of getting a kitten. Weird, I know. it’s gotta be the hormones right? I am thinking of sending my hubby a letter from the Knit Blog police stating that I have been unlawfully BWOAC (blogging with out a cat) and a demand that I bring my blog up to code immediately or they will shut me down. What do you think? Anywho, when all else fails for blog fodder…a Christmas meme!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? Wrapping paper definitely, I love getting really elaborate with the ribbons and bows. I’ve already gone through two rolls of tape. I do like bags for weird shaped stuff though, w/ lots of Christmasy tissue paper!

2. Real tree or artificial? Oh please, real. I would rather vacuum up needles anyday than have some ugly fire hazard made out of lead sitting in my living room. Besides no one gets excited about climbing up in the attic to drag down the Christmas tree. Going to get your own is the only way to do it!

3. When do you put up the tree? As soon as humanly possible, we usually do it the earliest Dec. weekend that we have Elizabeth…so this weekend. Yay!

4. When do you take the tree down? We have to take it down?

5. Do you like eggnog? Yes I do, we have an ice cream maker and Elizabeth likes it when I put eggnog in and make eggnog ice cream too.

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Too many “greats” to pick just one.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? We do, it’s Travis’s, it’s very pretty and goes under the Christmas tree…until mom passes on hers. (hint, hint)

8. Hardest person to buy for? My husband. It’s like pulling teeth to get ideas out of him.

9. Easiest person to buy for? Elizabeth, she usually has a pretty reasonable list. I mean come on, what kid puts “batteries” on their list for stocking stuffers. She just gets tickled pink by AA’s.

10. Worst Christmas gift ever received? The year I asked Steve for “a nice pair of ladies gloves.”…he bought me a pair of black women’s ski gloves from Dicks. After Christmas we took those back and bought a nice pair of black, cashmere lined leather dress gloves…ya know, nice ladies gloves.

11. Mail or e-mail Christmas card? Mail of course…even if you do get my Christmas card for New Years.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Emmit Otter’s Jug Band Christmas. I always loved it when it came on HBO. Now thanks to Gigi we can watch it anytime! Yay Gigi!

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? Usually sometime in November.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Nope, I have put a couple in yard sales though.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas? Elizabeth and I love it when the clementines come in, we can sit down and eat a whole box in one night. Other than that, my favorite Christmas treat is…everything!

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Depends on my mood each year. Although I love multis under a blanket of snow…sooo pretty.

17. Favorite Christmas song? You mean I have to pick just ONE?!?!?

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? We like Christmas morning at home, Nana is pretty tough w/ her big breakfast and washed dishes before you open presents rule…but Christmas Day at Nana’s is the best, especially when Uncle Craig and Aunt Brenda are up.

19. Can you name Santa’s reindeer? Dasher,Dancer,Comet, Blitzen, Comet,Cupid, Donner, Vixen and of course, Rudolph and Olive The Other Reindeer. And I didn’t have to cheat and look it up.

20. Do you have an Angel on top or a star? Angel in the past but, Travis and I decided for our family we want a star, so we bought a real pretty silver tin one last weekend and we are going to put a light in it.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? We each get to open one present Christmas eve, chosen by someone else, stockings you can have anytime after midnite the rest on Christmas morning. And mom, we don’t even EAT breakfast until after the presents are all opened! LOL I have to say though, Elizabeth knows to let me sleep in a little, so last year, our first Christmas together, WHO should be tapping me on the shoulder at 6:30 am and saying, “I think we should get up now, honey? Honey? I think I hear Elizabeth, lets get up.”

22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? The lack of Christ in Christmas, the selection of Christian Christmas cards really makes me mad.Um yeah, there is actually a real reason why we have and celebrate this holiday called Christmas.

Hee hee, a good friend in NY sent this to me.

Money is tight this Christmas season. So I got the whole family jobs working at the local mall. Even Tad got in the act. Check us out.

Now go play yourself, you know you want to!

Is anyone thankful for Mondays?

November 19, 2007

Today, I am especially thankful for my bed with it’s flannel sheets and handmade quilt from my Mom B. Of course I would be even more thankful if I were still IN my bed. Why on earth are Mondays so…Mondayish? It is drizzly and yucky out today. I have often wanted to petition a new federal law which stated that if it was raining in the morning no one was to go to work until noon.

I am also thankful for my super supportive family. My new job has been a bit, well, interesting and to be perfectly honest, frustrating. My husband has been amazing and by my side through everything.

Oh yeah, and I’m super thankful for flannel pjs…again I’d be more thankful if…well, you know.

I told you I was a deadbeat blogger…

November 12, 2007

So, the Chambersburg Stitch n’ Bitch took over The Mannings on Saturday. There was junk food, there was knitting, there was shopping…and there is not a single picture to prove it. I even brought my camera! OK, here’s the beef folks. Pregnancy has turned my mind into mush! If any of you see my brain laying about, would you be so kind as to send it to me?

Anywho, we did have a fantastic time. The strangest thing happened though. I actually had saved up a goodly amount of money to blow on yarn guilt free, and I was totally uninspired. It was so weird! I found lots of lovely yarn, but it’s hard to get inspired for a big project when your belly is expanding. So, I bought lace weight. Alpaca with a Twist, Fino in Ruby Slippers and Plum Wine. I have gone on a lace stint where all the projects I want to knit/am able to wear are lace. I also picked up the first Barbara Walker. Holy Moly! Yeah, I’ll definitely be buying the rest. And of course the effervescent Yarn Harlot. Last but not least, some Eucalan wool wash.

We went to eat at the The Pub & Restaurant in Gettysburg. It’s a really great place. Delicious food, weird decor. It’s like a battle going on: We’re a pub! No we are a fine dining restaurant, no we are a pub! We were laughing because their menu has fairies all over it, so jokingly I said I was going to order, “the roasted fairy over a bed of spinach, medium rare please”.

A good time was had by all, and not a picture was taken. Yeah, I know.

Confessions of a deadbeat blogger

November 6, 2007

Well, I would like to be able to tell you all that life has just been so crazy and busy that I haven’t had the time to take a picture, let alone blog. Here’s the truth. Life is busy, not necessarily super busy but busy enough to whip my butt. I’m tired. All.the.time. This baby is kickin’ my hiney. I went to the doctor’s yesterday and she asked if I was exercising, I laughed out loud. Exercise? Oh yeah, I remember that, I used to do that before I got pregnant. My in-laws have been kind enough to lend me their treadmill for the pregnancy. It’s in our kitchen and the Monkey and even Fuzzybritches really like using it. I’ve been on it twice.

There has been knitting oh yes, there has. Unfortunately I can’t post too many pictures as most of it is Christmas presents. Here’s a pic of the hat I made in NY.

I love it, it’s out of my own handspun. I got the roving from Spunky Eclectic, in the colorway of “Hot Pepper”. I must say, it IS awesome stuff.

The Chambersburg Stitch n’ Bitch is going to The Mannings this Saturday. I can’t wait. I really need this trip. I need a good swift jolt to get me back up and running and I think this may do the trick. I haven’t been to my Thursday night knitting group in over a month and a half and I really miss those girls. *sigh* Hi Dottie and Bonnie! I’m still alive, really!

I have received several beautiful items recently for the Warm Up The Winter project. They are greatly appreciated. It has occurred to me that the weather has turned decidedly colder around here and so I will be wrapping up Warm Up The Winter by putting a deadline on it. Please have all packages in the mail to me no later than November 30th. I will be making our drop off to the homeless shelter in early December. Thanks to everyone who has participated. To anyone who has made a plug on their blog, thank you and if you could, please let folks know of the cut off date.

I’m hoping you’ll see more of me now that I am kicking the holiday knitting into full gear. I missed you guys.
