Weekend with Dad and Contest!

August 18, 2008

Well now that I have had plenty of time to digest our fun little weekend and come down with a sinus infection it’s time for a post and a celebratory contest! Since I have been so blessed in seeing my sister I am passing on the good vibes. On to the post!

Well let’s see, we really surprised our Dad, which was great fun, but we agreed we will tell him when we are coming to visit from now on. No more surprises. It was great, we arrived at 10:30 in the evening and Dad came out on the porch to help us bring things in from the car. When he saw Jen and I together he screamed like a little girl and swore at us, which we were kind of figuring he would. In fact at one point we were guessing what he would call us. Basically it went something like this:

Well hello therAAaAAAEEEEeeeeEEEeeeeAAAAyou little bastards!

Which in Dad language means, “Well hello there, Golly gee wow! Look at you two!”

Here is a picture of us with our favorite cousin at the clambake, can you tell all of us are related?

Earlier that morning we swung by my Mom’s side of the family to celebrate my grandparents 55th Anniversary. Awwww, they’re so cute. Happy Anniversary Gigi and Grandpa!

We did lots of stuff at Dad’s, like stalk the chickens, eat peas out of the garden, and pick beans. Finn helped with the beans.

Travis, Finn, and I took a walk in the woods one afternoon too. Finn loved to look around.

Now for the contest! We had to make a side trip to the Monkey’s birth place to get a copy of her birth certificate. Using this picture as your only clue (click to embiggen), tell me what town she was born in. Leave your guess in the comments. All those with the correct answer will be put into a drawing and someone will be randomly chosen to win…a $25 gift certificate to Blue Moon Fiber Arts! Family members are not eligible. 😛 The contest will end on Friday August 22 at 10:00 pm eastern. Winner will be announced later that evening!

Enjoy and Good luck!

Magic Yarn Ball Swap

August 12, 2008

I did a swap recently on the diaper sewing forum I am a member of. I had never heard of a Magic Yarn Ball Swap before, but man is it fun! You buy lots of little goodies and maybe one big goody and wind yarn into a ball, adding the goodies in the yarn as you go. Then as the recipient knits they get goodies as they go!

Here is my yarn ball from my swap partner, hand dyed, it wants to be mittens, can’t you tell? I luuuv the colors!

I was merrily knitting away on my mittens when I saw a teensy bit of blue poking through, see it there in the upper right hand corner, so I gave it a better look…and it’s roving! Now I told myself I would be good and just knit the ball to the end, waiting patiently to see my surprises, but the roving has me undone. Yes, I will admit it, I am barely finished with the cuff of the first mitten and I decided to just unwind it with my ball winder. Curse you Roving!

It is sooo pretty and this picture doesn’t really do it justice, it’s blues and purples and a teeny bit of pink. It’s going to spin up beautifully. And you can tell, it’s Finn approved!

Thank you Swap Partner! This was great and thanks so much for keeping the tea caffeine free. So thoughtful of you! So, now that it’s properly wound, I have to start my mittens over, bad girl, bad, bad, bad. Here’s a shot of the gorgeous yarn.

Visitors from a far…

August 6, 2008

Last night I picked up my sis from the airport. Yay! We have not seen each other in twelve years. All was quiet at the airport until we saw each other and then there was much shrieking and laughing and people staring at us. This evening we will be heading for NY to surprise our Dad. Hee, hee.

Here’s to not letting the moss grow under your feet, but rather squishing it joyously between your toes.

Desperation sets in…

August 3, 2008

You should hear my mommy! Before I was born she had certain views on the use of a pacifier. After all, my big sister didn’t really use a pacifier all that long, a month or two, and then she found her thumb. Mommy said I wasn’t going to use a pacifier…and then I arrived, and I was colicky to boot. My how her story has changed.

Mine hasn’t…I listened to her while I was in the womb and I won’t use a pacifier. Any of them. Mama wants me to take a pacifier to calm me down, but I won’t. She desperately, desperately wants me to take a pacifier. Wanna see how desperate she is?

Yeah, desperate is the word mama. She has even ordered one of those from the internet. She has one more on its way, this one. Gumdrop pacifier. She’s hoping it will be “the one”. We shall see. Hee, hee, hee.
