Small comforts

May 27, 2015

I like simple things.

I take great joy and comfort in the small things in life. I have expensive tastes and generally I prefer to pay extra to buy something of quality that will last me a good long time, but as a whole, it’s the little things that make me the most happy.

Hot tea and a good book on a rainy day.

The feeling of freshly tilled dirt in my hands as I plant something small and green.

Cooking a meal that will nourish the people I love.

Tiny feet, that really aren’t that tiny anymore, wiggling against my leg during early morning snuggles.

Sheets that have been dried outside on the clothesline.

A Pilot Precise V5 in blue.

Snuggling on the couch with good food and an episode of whatever we’re binge watching.

A campfire.

Finding that hidden treasure at a flea market for a steal.

I think I can attribute most of my happiness to comfort in small things. It makes happiness easier to find, to attain. Think about it, when the only things that make you happy are the big stuff:  a new house, an expensive car, a perfect relationship, you’re going to be waiting a while to be happy.

And the big stuff is worthwhile as well. We all need goals and things to work towards, but don’t forget to savor the small joys found in every day life. I believe it is the key to every day happiness.
